1/ Approximately half a million Texas residents can face completely legal housing discrimination because of their criminal records. The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is no different. These obstacles can lead to increased rates of homelessness and recidivism.
2/ Trying to find a place to live as an ex-convict in DFW is a “challenge at best,” said Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price. “You don’t have to even use the adjective affordable,” Price said.
3/ Trinity Restoration Ministries is a Dallas-based reentry program for men and serves 100 clients a year. Founded in 2004, it has 33 bed spaces with plans to expand. Participants take life skills classes and are required to save at least $2,000 over a six-month period.
4/ “We've got men that have been here over three years already [...],” TRM Executive Director Dennis Gant said. “So that tells you they're either having a hard time finding another place or they prefer not to even try because they've run into problems in the past.”
